Visits: Zollner Elektronik AG and Sturm Maschinen- & Anlagenbau GmbH

Day 4: Sensor technology for wireless power transfer and vision technologies for process monitoring

„The intelligence of a product is not the software anymore, there are more details to recognize“ mentioned Markus M. Hoffmann (Zollner AG, Head of Business Development Asia Pacific). To learn more about these details, the participants were invited to visit Zollner Elektronik AG, another internationally operating member of the sensor network. With its solutions, e.g. in the fields of rail, medical or measurement technology, the Zandt-based company ranks among the world market leaders. Sensor systems in wireless power transfer was topic of Daniel Preis' (Electronic Development) lecture. Afterwards his colleague Daniel Amberger presented innovative systems for detection, e.g. FOD and LOD, short for foreign object detection system or living object detection. He explained in detail the development of capacitive sensing to detection via radar.

After lunch Dr. Wolfgang Ulrich (Sturm Maschinen- & Anlagenbau GmbH) expected our Summerschool participants in Salching. This part of the Sturm Group is known for its business segment Vision. "Well-known international companies rely on our experience and know-how" said the host. Therefore the focus of Dr. Ullrich's lecture was vision technology for process monitoring. What used to be grey theory was then filled with life: the participants were able to see various cleaning and drying systems, test prank cases - and of course a lot of sensors, which were used for example for surface roughening of cylinders.
