Welcome to Regensburg! Germany, England, Italy, Romania – Participants from all over the world are interested in sensor technology

Day1: Lectures and TechBase-Tour

Yesterday we welcomed over 20 guests in Regensburg. They travelled to Regensburg to inform themselves for one week about the latest sensor technologies. Our Sensorik Summerschool mediates not only essential basics of sensor technology in a user-oriented and practical way. Participants also gain in-depth insights into interdisciplinary contexts of modern sensor systems from different fields of application.

"Sensors are everywhere!" Dr. Hubert Steigerwald explained the importance of this technology in automotive, mobiles, photography, medicine, saftey and how it works. He gave a short introduction to our regional Network for the Sensor Industry, the "idea behind", our strategy, tasks and activities. His colleague Dr. Andreas Stadler (Sensorik-Bayern GmbH) explained details on various sensor principles and fields of application for intelligent sensor systems.

Andreas Gschossmann, Sensorik-ApplikationsZentrum (SappZ), focussed on Hands-on deep learning in his lecture. The SappZ is a laboratory of the Faculty of General Sciences and Microsystems Technology at OTH Regensburg and consists of a group of researchers and students. The interdisciplinary team in the SappZ unites the sensor technology competencies of the city of Regensburg and thus acts as a link between research and industry.

Dr. Veronika Fetzer (DGO) led the participants through the TechBase, from the laboratories in the basement to the top floor - whit a wonderful view of the city centre. The goal of the DGO (Digitale Gründerinitiative Oberpfalz) is the development of a sustainable start-up culture in the field of digitisation throughout the Upper Palatinate for more digital start-ups. Young entrepreneurs, e.g. Daniel Kotter from Futuro Farming, presented new sensor-solutions: His team has developed an early warning system for calf diseases.
